Steampuck Assets: Steam Truck (Finishing)

Here I started finishing off the texturing of my steam truck as you can see below I started to do the usual checker map in order to get the proportions right the textures to tile and look seamless as you can see below most of the objects that I hadn't textured covered in the checker texture

Below I started to add the textures to the steam truck as well as adding bump maps and as you can see in the right lighting rendered the steam truck has come to life

Criticism: again I need to add grime and really look at the textures in order to make them look more run down and used

Steampuck Assets: Steam Arm (Finishing)

Here I'm finishing off my steam arm by texturing it as I said I would do in the previous post of the steam arm I made as you can see below this is showing my texturing of the steam arm

Below are some rendered images with a bump map of the final detail I've added to the steam arm this I hope will make it sit in the environment seamlessly

Criticism: again with most of my things I need to add more mark and grime and have a very good specular map

Steampunk: Resarch Butlers Wharf Shad Thames & Other Pics

Below are some research images that I found on Google looking at Docklands Old Street old towns fortifications and amazingly the last image the Zeppelin entering a port with a very interesting tower which in my opinion looks very steampunk looking at these images I've decided to make the gatehouse in my environment from the second image and or so possibly adding in bridges linking buildings as you can see in the first picture and the third picture has made me feel I'd like to build a castle which will be on a hill you will not be to get to this castle but it will be ever to be seen from the environment giving the player the feel that there is more beyond the environment he is in really setting environment in a bigger world

Steampunk: Maya Idea

I have desided to make all the unige areas of the sreampunk area in maya and export as a hole this is so i know that it all will fit together. This will be my master file I will make all the basic assets in this single file I will duplicate a lot of these pipes and so forth to see how it will look but then I will only explore one of these in order to duplicate that in unity which will save memory and help the frame rate in the game

One of the other reasons for this is also all my assets were previously in separate files in maya and this can make me lose scope or even possibly forget that I've previously made something and then remade it again because I forgot about it and by doing this I will have all of these in the same environment and making sure the scale is the same and I will be able to use this to show my tutors my work in full instead of having to open up multiple files to show each thing I have made.

Steampunk: Ramp

A couple of years ago I went on holiday to Cornwall me in my family visited Port isaac This is where Doc Martin was filmed in the second picture below is a ramp moving up the side of the valley to the left is the harbour this is the view and idea I would like to put into my new environment using more research from Port Isaac I made this simple drawing at the end of this post in order to show my basic idea of what I hopefully want this ramp to look like in my new environment

Below is the picture that I drew using the inspiration from the images above as you can see I've added in my flying conveyor belt and also there will be a warehouse hanging off the side of the ramp which will be a storehouse and have a crane on it which I have previously made and possibly having holes in the side of the ramp fraud at water to escape this I hope will make the environment really interesting and really make it look like a working port

Steampunk: New Lay Out

As I said in one of my previous posts about Marie doing the environment layout I looked at some basic designs as you can see below I have drawn onto pages altogether there are three designs the last one  is a more detailed design of the second image on the other page this is the environment layout I believe I'm going to go for to help make my environment look more interesting and more realistic and more organic

Steampunk Research: Amsterdam

On holiday to Amsterdam while walking around the unique city full of canals and old buildings which I thought would be great inspiration for my environment I gradually took pictures as I walked around the city and when I visited the Heineken Museum I took pictures of the barrels crates and eventually this the brewery with all the copper and brass and metal pipework which was ideal as inspiration for my environment or so there were pictures of other buildings with towers on the side which I would like to duplicate in my environment and really add uniqueness and one-off buildings to the environment to really make the environment aesthetically pleasing

News: Only Doing Steampunk

You might have noticed from my lack of posts for the other two environments I have become too invested in the steam punk environment and I'm enjoying it too much in order to leave it I've decided to stop work on the other two environments and concentrate fully on the steam punk environment I believe this is a good idea due to the fact that I can now concentrate my full attention on the environment and adding so much more detail to it than I could with having to make another two environments I am also thinking about possibly making a new layout for my environment as the one I currently have does not feel organic or natural I think making this choice was a good idea as trying to make the other two environments in the amount of time I have left would be counter-productive
